Arizona Cardinals from A to Z: Shaq Riddick
By Scott Allen
Player profile of OLB Shaq Riddick as Arizona Cardinals training camp continues
As we have reached the end of the third week of Arizona Cardinals training camp, we continue our annual look at the roster player by player. I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.
We go from A to Z and continue with OLB Shaq Riddick. Riddick is a rookie out of West Virginia.
2014 season. Riddick played as a defensive end for West Virginia. The Cardinals have moved him to linebacker. He had 27 tackles, which included 11 for a loss and seven sacks. That sack total was more than twice the amount any other West Virginia player had last season.
2015 season projection: It will be interesting to see how he handles the move to linebacker. He has good hands and is considered quick off the snap. He currently sits behind Alex Okafor and Kareem Martin on the depth chart though. A lot will depend on how many linebackers the Cardinals intend to keep on whether he makes the final roster or not. Riddick’s problem is he has been hampered by injury and has not been able to play. Hopefully that time comes soon.
Well it sounds as if he is nearing a return to the field. On Thursday coach Bruce Arians said Riddick could return from his hamstring injury as early as Monday this week. I don’t know if that was hopeful or not but Riddick needs to make the field soon or he will end up on the cut list.
