Arizona Cardinals: 8/24 update

The Arizona Cardinals returned to the practice field after their 22-19 loss to the San Diego Chargers
The Arizona Cardinals made their way to the practice field on Monday afternoon as training camp enters its last week. Hard to believe training camp is almost over but the Cardinals still have a lot of work to do before they are ready for the opener on September 13th.
However, injuries continued to be at the forefront of the news. A few players sat out of practice on Monday.
The hamstring continues to hamper players. It is amazing we are still talking about this in week three of the preseason. Running back Chris Johnson who missed the game on Saturday night, is now considered day to day. A couple of days ago it was thought he’d be out at least a week or two.
Cornerback Jerraud Powers has a hamstring injury and missed practice Monday as did linebacker Sean Weatherspoon. There was a thought over the weekend Weatherspoon could return to practice today. I wasn’t holding my breath when that was said and good thing.
The good news was that linebacker Shaq Riddick returned to practice on Monday. He needed to get back now to have a chance to play on Sunday night at the Oakland Raiders. He hasn’t played yet this preseason and could be cut if the Cardinals coaching staff doesn’t get enough of a look at him.
Some other tid bits from today’s information from head coach Bruce Arians included comments on several players. Amongst those comments included the offensive line, which did not play particularly well on Saturday night.
Arians is giving Humphries reps at LT this week because "he's going to be a back-up tackle for us." DJ needs versatility to dress on Sundays

"Ted had a really good game and he blew it all on one dumb penalty.” -- #AZCardinals coach Bruce Arians on LG Ted Larsen.

Bruce Arians says D.J. Humphries will get some work at LT this week. Earl Watford will work at RT and compete for that job.

General manager Steve Keim wasn’t happy about the protection either. He mentioned on Monday morning on Arizona Sports 98.7 that the offensive line protection, or lack thereof, is concerning. He also mentioned how the running backs need to do a better job in that department as well. Agreed. If there was one real disappointment from the game on Saturday night, it was from that unit. Quarterback Carson Palmer will need all the protection he can get.
