Player profile of DE Matt Shaughnessy as Arizona Cardinals prepare to wind down preseason

As we have reached the end of Arizona Cardinals training camp and just two games of the preseason remaining, we continue our annual look at the roster player by player.  I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.

We go from A to Z and continue with DE Matt Shaughnessy.  Shaughnessy begins his seventh NFL season, third with the Cardinals.

2014 season:  Shaughnessy appeared headed for greatness after a solid 2012 season with the Oakland Raiders and 2013 season with the Cardinals.  However he only played in eight games last season, starting seven of them after being placed on injured reserve.  He returned in December to finish out the season. He had just 17 tackles last season.

2015 season: His injury last year likely set him behind on the depth chart in camp this year.  He is currently third on the depth chart behind Frostee Rucker and Ed Stinson.  He is officially listed as a defensive end on the roster but at defensive tackle on the depth chart.  His chances of making the team should be higher than some others at other positions but I would probably consider him a player on the bubble at the moment.

Not sure if a trade will work for him but apparently it is something that some in the media are thinking.  I’ve not seen much on it.  This week should be very interesting when the cut list comes out on Tuesday and Friday.
