Arizona Cardinals CB Jerraud Powers out two weeks
By Erich Becker
The only major injury from Monday’s matchup could hurt the Cardinals going forward.
During training camp there was the big question as to who would make the roster, practice squad or be sent to the street with so many talented guys and only so many roster spots. Experts and analyst kept saying that the Cardinals were going to have to cut another team’s starter in order to make 53 men.
But the one position that wasn’t as deep with talent was cornerback, and, of course, the Cardinals are now hurting there.
Starting corner Jerraud Powers was diagnosed with a grade 2 hamstring pull after the game yesterday, his prognosis is two weeks, one of those two weeks is the bye in Week 9, but for Week 8 at Cleveland it appears as though Justin Bethel will get the start opposite Patrick Peterson.
Bethel entered the game in the second half of Monday’s game and played okay with two tackles and a forced fumble (on special teams).
Powers missed two preseason games with the same injury but had not missed a regular season game.
Bethel is an admirable corner, and has the expectations of his coach to be great, and all the confidence as well, “I have all the confidence in the world in Justin to handle the corner,” Bruce Arians said.
