The Arizona Cardinals had several players miss practice on Wednesday

As the Arizona Cardinals prepare to face the Cleveland Browns this Sunday in Cleveland, several players missed practice on Wednesday.  Most notably, receiver John Brown was absent from practice, still nursing his injured hamstring.

Brown has been hobbled by his injury for a couple of weeks now.  He was able to play in Monday night’s win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Other Cardinals that missed practice on Wednesday include tight end Darren Fells, who missed Monday’s game as well, center Lyle Sendlein, receiver Brittan Golden, cornerback Jerraud Powers, linebacker Alex Okafor, and defensive tackle Frostee Rucker.

Okafor has missed the past couple of games and reports came out this week he could be near returning.  Powers has already been reported as being out this week and may miss a couple of weeks before returning to the field.

Other injuries the Cardinals are nursing are defensive end Dwight Freeney who hurt his finger, cornerback Justin Bethel with a foot injury, and safety Deone Bucannon with an elbow injury.  They were all limited on Wednesday.  Bethel is expected to start against the Browns in place of Powers.

As you can see, the Cardinals rely heavily on both Brown and Fells in the red zone.  The Cardinals can manage without them if need be, however the Cardinals are at their best when they have them healthy and available.  The Cardinals have not taken advantage of red zone opportunities in the past couple of weeks like they did early in season.

Coach Bruce Arians did say that some of the players that missed practice on Wednesday would return on Thursday.  He did not specify which players those would be though.  We wait till Thursday’s practice to find out.
