The Arizona Cardinals rise in our Power Rankings after a dominating win over the St. Louis Rams

The league has some explaining to do when the season is said and done, besides some egregious officiating gaffes here and there, how two divisions in football can be both so very bad, in this age of parity, that it is very likely that at least one, and maybe two, under .500 division winners could make it into the playoffs this year.

Both the NFC East and the AFC South have non-winning teams currently in first place. Granted the Colts and Texans are tied at 6-6, but that isn’t a winning record. The NFC East has three teams tied at 5-7, with the Redskins on the tiebreaker as the defacto division “leader” right not, and the Cowboys, at 4-8 are just a game out of first place. Yes. You read that right.

Elsewhere, the trend of undefeated teams falling and then losing the week after falling continues with New England dropping another game to the pesky Eagles (see the NFC East above). Both Cincinnati and Green Bay dropped consecutive games after falling from the unbeaten ranks, and now so has New England.

Elsewhere, the divisional and conference match-ups for the rest of the season will have a huge impact on seeding. The tilt between Minnesota and Arizona to kick off Week 14 on Thursday Night Football will have huge implications. A win by Arizona could theoretically lock up the NFC West and the 2nd seed baring a complete collapse.

Here’s how the league shook up this week.
