A trio of starters have been ruled out for the Arizona Cardinals in Week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings
While injuries are not a new thing in the NFL, several teams will say that short weeks prevent players from playing who might have been able to should the games still all be played on Sunday or Monday. It doesn’t appear that way with the Arizona Cardinals players ruled out this week.
A day before the Cardinals take on the Vikings at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, three players have been ruled out by coach Bruce Arians. Andre Ellington, Jerraud Powers and Frostee Rucker will sit out this week.
Ellington suffered a toe injury two weeks ago and has not practiced since. Rookie David Johnson stepped in for Ellington and injured-but-to-return starter Chris Johnson rushing for 99 yards last week against the Rams. Johnson will get the start this week and be backed up by Kerwynn Williams and Stephan Taylor (who suffered a shoulder injury but is not ruled out as of yet).
Powers, who suffered a calf injury, has also been ruled out with Justin Bethel to start opposite Patrick Peterson in the backfield.
Frostee Rucker sits again after missing last week as well.
The Cardinals have shown a great resilience when needed especially at positions with a great amount of depth. The way the defense plays there’s a lot of leeway in how different personnel can be used.
On the questionable front, Tony Jefferson is a game-time decision as is Jermaine Gresham.
