One of the much improved areas for the Arizona Cardinals in 2015 was the running game

The Arizona Cardinals had a very hard time running the ball in the 2014 season.  They only had one 100-yard rusher for the season.  That was a guy named Kerwynn Williams who had come off the practice squad just one day earlier.

The tune in the 2015 season was much different.  Newcomers Chris Johnson and David Johnson took over and put the Cardinals running game back on the map.  They were a nice addition given the injury difficulties of Andre Ellington, who saw his injuries continue to pose a concern in 2015.

Here is a look back at the Cardinals running backs for 2015 and what their future may hold.

Chris Johnson

Johnson was on track for a Pro Bowl season until it was derailed with an injury in November.  He found the Fountain of Youth and regained a lot of what people saw from him in his early years with the Tennessee Titans.

In just 11 games and nine starts, Johnson rushed for 814 yards.  He scored just three touchdowns but that was mainly due to the fact others were getting the ball inside the five and 10 yard lines.  However he had a 4.2 yard-per-carry average in 2015.  His longest rush was 62 yards.

His 2015 season though, as stated previously, was derailed by injury.  There was a chance he could return for the Super Bowl but we never got to see that come to fruition.  Hopefully it was not the last we see of Johnson.

He was playing on a one-year contract.  If you talk to fans they are mixed on what the Cardinals should do.  While the Cardinals have young talent there is no denying what Johnson did in 2015. I can see the Cardinals re-signing him to another one-year contract and splitting time on the field with David Johnson.
