10th Pick – New York Giants (6-10)
Sheldon Rankins – DT
Louisville – Senior
6-2, 304 Pounds

A physical force, it seemed to be lacking for the Giants all year long, and the Giants were pushed around like a bully looking for lunch money. The Giants couldn’t get the opponent off the field, seemed like they had no business being there most of the time. They lacked defensive tackles with strength, although they did have finesse, the Giants were always being shown the improper way to defend against the pass and the run. I don’t want to see Jason Pierre-Paul in another uniform, but I think it’s time for them to move on. They did draft Owa Odighizuwa last year, so it’s not going to be that difficult to adjust for the Giants.

Sheldon Rankins showed his ability to push offensive lineman off the line of scrimmage all throughout the Senior Bowl (although he didn’t play the game) and through his senior year. He has great strength, has been noted for his unbelievable knack for the ball, and seems like the kind of player that the Giants love to have. They do have Johnathan Hankins for another year, along with the less-then-stellar Jay Bromley. I don’t know how the pairing would go, but I do like the tenacity of Rankins, and I would take Rankins over the other two prospects.

It wasn’t too long ago that the Giants were known for how stifling the Giants defensive front is, but it seems as though the Giants have lost a little bit of the edge. The Giants really need help along the defensive line, with much of the roster being depleted from previous Super Bowl winning teams. The Giants have seen many star defensive ends leave, and now, the Giants have no one left. That’s why they need to build from the bottom now.
