2016 NFL Mock Draft: February edition
5th Pick – Jacksonville Jaguars (5-11)
Joey Bosa – DE
Ohio State – Junior
6-5, 275 Pounds
At least Joey Bosa (a projected first overall selection) didn’t become absent from the top five selections. Jacksonville really missed a pass-rushing benefactor, with major injuries to last years first round selection, Dante Fowler Jr., and the main man in the middle Sen’Derrick Marks (who also just signed a big deal last offseason). A pairing of Dante Fowler Jr., Roy Miller, Sen’Derrick Marks, and Joey Bosa makes this a very strong and abusing group to the opposing offensive line.
Joey Bosa is a very talented young man, with great attributes of rushing the passer, seems to have an arsenal of moves to get past the opposing offensive line, and is quick to react. The main reason I don’t end up seeing Bosa go number one is because of a lack of production during his junior year. All those double teams seemed to wear on him, made him susceptible to being pushed around. I love Bosa, and with a lot more talent on the line there in Jacksonville, that probably doesn’t happen.
Jacksonville needs a few pieces to finally make an impact, with many good things happening on the offense (not the offensive line), the Jaguars just need to make this poor defense a lot better. I get that the Jaguars are typically not very close to the playoffs, but I believe in what Gus Bradley is doing. Build it from the ground, and Joey Bosa seems to be a base-floor type of guy.
Player Comparison: Robert Quinn – St. Louis Rams
