The Arizona Cardinals bring back another Johnson into the fold
The Arizona Cardinals have reportedly re-signed Chris Johnson to a one year deal after the free agent running back talked with the team last week and visited the Miami Dolphins this week.
The deal comes hot on the heals of the team signing G Evan Mathis, a running game expert on the offensive line with Mike Iupati on the other side. Between both of them and a, presumably new, center.
Before Johnson was injured last season, paving the way for David Johnson to breakout, he was second in the league in rushing. he finished out the season with three touchdowns, a 4.2 average from 196 attempts and 814 yards.
Once a 2,000 yard rusher, Johnson had fallen out of favor with the New York Jets after a single season. CJ2K eclipsed 100 yards three times during the 2015 campaign and last played in the November 29th matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.
The team that was once the laughing stock of the league when it came to rushing and had numerous former-stars retire to the desert for just one more season, now see’s itself flush with talent. All indications are that David Johnson will start with Andre Ellington and Chris Johnson providing a change-of-pace role, however, as the Cardinals have seen, having more than one workhorse on the team can certainly help the situation.
