There is a strong indication that the Arizona Cardinals will be hosting the New England Patriots in Week 1.

The 2016 NFL regular season schedule doesn’t come out for another hour. The only thing the Cardinals know is who they’ll be playing. Along with traditional division games, Arizona will take on teams from the NFC South, AFC East in addition to taking on the Minnesota Vikings and the Washington Redskins.

Thanks to Twitter, the Cardinals may have gotten their first hint of when they will be playing. Earlier today, Ben Volin, a Patriots writer for the Boston Globe tweeted out a not so subtle remark regarding the open weekend of the 2016 season.

If this ends up being true it could be one of the most hyped games of Week 1, second to the Super Bowl 50 rematch between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos. With the big name teams involve, the NFL will most likely schedule this game as the second Monday Night Football game of Week 1. The Cardinals played in this time slot two years ago against the San Diego Chargers.

There are many great story lines surrounding a match up between the two conference runner ups from last season that will generate heavy talk. The first being the quarterback duel between Tom Brady and Carson Palmer. Many will want to see how Palmer responds in his first game since the disastrous NFC Championship game.

Another exciting match up to look forward is the mind game that will be played between Bruce Arians and Bill Belichick; two of the top coaches in the NFL.

The most rousing story line surrounding this game is watching Chandler Jones in his first game as a Cardinal against his former team. I have no problem if Jones makes Jonathan Cooper look like a rag doll on his way to his first multi sack game in a Cardinal uniform.

While everything pertaining to the schedule is all speculation as of now, there will be no complaints from the fans if this rumor turns out to be true.
