Arizona Cardinals: Ranking first round picks since 2010
3. Deone Bucannon, Safety, 2014
Deone Bucannon has been one of the Cardinals best value picks in recent times. With many safeties on the roster, Bucannon made the transition to play linebacker this past season. “Drone” defied expectations and became one of the Cardinals most productive players in the defensive backfield.
On draft day, the Cardinals traded their first round pick (#20 overall) to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for the Saints first round pick (#27 overall) and third round pick (#91 overall) in order to take Bucannon.
As a rookie, Bucannon played in all 16 games, while starting 9 of them, and made 83 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 forced fumble. In his first year as a starter in 2015, Bucannon, the linebacker, was the Cardinals leading tackler with 112 combined tackles and also tallied 3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 1 interception and 1 touchdown.
With only 2 NFL seasons under his belt, it made sense to rank him at #3 given that there is still a lot more from Bucannon that we have yet to see. However, if he keeps improving at this rate he could easily move up to #2 on this list.
