Arizona Cardinals preseason depth chart
By Scott Allen
1. Darren Fells
Just a couple of year ago, Fells was considered a project in training camp. Since then he has climbed the depth chart to the number one tight end on the roster.
Fells caught 21 passes for 311 yards last season. That isn’t necessarily numbers that make you think number one tight end. However the Cardinals don’t utilize their tight ends as receivers first. You must be a blocker first and foremost.
Fells could be pushed for the go-to guy at tight end by guys coming up the ranks like Troy Niklas and Ifeyani Momah.
2. Troy Niklas
Niklas is a prime example of a good blocking tight end. He was known more for his blocking than receiving coming out of Notre Dame two years ago. He caught his first two touchdowns of his career last season, both in the same game against the Cleveland Browns. As long as he can stay healthy this year, look for more of the same from Niklas in 2016.
