The Arizona Cardinals are just four days away from opening training camp in Glendale

We continue our annual look at player by player from A to Z on the current Arizona Cardinals roster as we are now entering the final stages of the offseason before the start of training camp. Players report to training camp this Thursday July 28th.

In this profile we look at receiver Brittan Golden.  He enters his 3rd season in the NFL out of West Texas A&M.

2015: Golden played mostly on special teams for the Cardinals in 2015.  He had just one reception for the team last year.  He caught one pass for five yards against the Seattle Seahawks.

Despite being active for 14 games last season, Golden was really never in consideration for many targets.  At one point there was a plan to move him to defense in the secondary.

2016: Golden could be one of the wild-cards at receiver as the team decides how many receivers they are going to keep on the 53-man roster.  Make no bones about it, for Golden, despite his talents, it will be tough.

The Cardinals likely have the first four spots locked up with Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd, John Brown, J.J. Nelson.  After that you have Jaron Brown, Jaxon Shipley, Amir Carlisle, all competing with Golden for one but more likely two spots.

I can’t see the Cardinals carrying more than six receivers given the talent the Cardinals also have at tight end and running back.  There just aren’t enough spots.  Carlisle could be a potential practice squad candidate.

Golden will have to have a near perfect camp to remain and even then it may not be enough.  This is why they play training camp out though.  You never know what will happen with the others.
