Darnell Dockett retires on Monday with the Arizona Cardinals
We shared the news earlier today that the Arizona Cardinals and former defensive tackle Darnell Dockett intends to retire on Monday as a member of the team. He will sign a one-day contract.
Dockett spent 10 years with the Cardinals before being released early in the offseason prior to the 2015 season. He attempted to catch on with the San Francisco 49ers but was released in the preseason.
The reaction to the news amongst media and fans was complimentary. They took to Twitter on Sunday after the news broke.
No way a proud Cane would ever wear an FSU shirt but once I lost a bet to @ddockett Congrats 9-0 on a great career pic.twitter.com/uzUDLrt2mo

.@ddockett was one of the best pound-for-pound NFL players during his career. Loved calling his games. Is a TV career next??

Dockett will no doubt be remembered for a long time around the Valley. He was fun to watch on the field and while I didn’t always agree with his takes on Twitter, he was interesting to say the least.
The big question being discussed now amongst fans is will he go into the Cardinals Ring of Honor? That’s a difficult question to answer. As part of the draft class that included Larry Fitzgerald, it may end up being the best overall class in team history.
As my colleague Vijay Singaraju mentioned in his news piece this morning, the Ring of Honor is a discussion for another day but don’t be surprised if the topic comes up during his press conference at 2:30 on Monday afternoon.
