Arizona Cardinals add Donald Butler

The Arizona Cardinals add veteran linebacker right before camp opens
Arizona Cardinals training camp is now just one day away until players report. The first practice is just two days away. So why not keep adding to the roster?
On Wednesday, the Cardinals did just that. They added sixth-year veteran Donald Butler to mix. Butler spent the first five seasons of his career with the San Diego Chargers.
Butler played in all 16 games last season but only started nine of them for the Chargers. He had just 43 tackles and 1/2 a sack, career-lows for him. From the sounds of things, not a lot of fans in San Diego are disappointed to see him leave.
That being said, the Cardinals could use another veteran at linebacker. As stated a number of times, the Cardinals seem to have a revolving door at the position. This move puts Butler in a possible Dwight Freeney position.
Feeeney didn’t come in until October last season but Butler can be a guy who comes in now, learns the playbook, and would be ready to add some serious depth once the regular season starts. Butler should come in though and still have a chance to compete for a lot of playing time.

By signing Butler, the Cardinals waived Quayshawn Nealy. Nealy was signed to the Cardinals practice squad in January.
Don’t be surprised if this isn’t the last move before the first preseason game. I wouldn’t be shocked if it isn’t the last move the team makes this week. As for Butler, his production has slipped year by year since his rookie season in 2011.
The Cardinals have been known as a destination though where players get better recently. I imagine the Cardinals are hoping that magic plays itself out once again.
