A continuing look at the Arizona Cardinals roster as training camp is underway

The Arizona Cardinals are now almost a week into training camp with the first preseason game just a little over a week away.  This is a continuing look at the current roster player by player.

In this profile we look at tackle D J Humphries.  He is a second-year player out of Florida.

2015: Humphries didn’t play a single down for the Cardinals last season.  He was on the 53-man roster all-year long however he was inactive for all 16 games.

Humphries was a surprise pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Cardinals.  Once he was selected though no one could have guessed he’d never see the field in the regular season.

He got in head coach Bruce Arians dog house early in camp for lack of effort at times.  Although he was healthy all season he sat and watched.

2016: As we head into the new season, many will be looking at Humphries to see how he has progressed.  Did a year of sitting on the sidelines help him?

We know Arians doesn’t play rookies much to begin with but you have to seriously wonder why you take a guy like Humphries so early in a draft?  The appearance is they drafted him for the following season but the Cardinals will never admit that.

Clearly he is a talented player or he wouldn’t still be around.  It will be interesting to see how he gets utilized in the preseason and see how he fits into the offensive line rotation once they lace it up for real in September.

As long as he stays healthy, he should be a major contributor.  Maybe the Cardinals knew what they were doing all along?
