Arizona Cardinals: 5 players with stock rising
By Scott Allen
Brandon Williams
When he was drafted, cornerback Brandon Williams was thought to be the future for the Cardinals in the secondary. However then guys like Justin Bethel suffered injury setbacks and gave him the chance to earn the spotlight.
Now fast forward a little more than a week into training camp, Williams has appeared to impress his coaches along with the fans. On Saturday Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians indicated Williams is a starter right now.
Now the depth is still a question, so being a starter just over one week into camp doesn’t mean a whole lot with Bethel and Mike Jenkins coming back before camp ends. It does mean he is doing something right though.
Arians is known for not giving anyone a job, especially rookies. For him to publicly say Williams is a starter right now speaks volumes to the job Williams has done so far.
Williams wasn’t necessarily deemed a project but more of a guy that would be ready in a year or two to start. Look how long it took Bethel to start a game at corner. He didn’t make his first start at corner until his fourth season.
