The Arizona Cardinals for the second straight week had to make a number of roster moves

We knew there could be some movement on the Arizona Cardinals roster this week given injuries that have taken place.  However the movement was a little wild on Tuesday.

Starting with punter Drew Butler, who was waived in favor of Ryan Quigley.  The Cardinals reached an injury settlement with the punter.  He injured his Achilles in week one.  Quigley handled the punting and holding duties this past Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

Then came the movement first reported Monday night.  The Cardinals elevated quarterback Zac Dysert off of the practice squad.  The move lead to a lot of speculation that Carson Palmer would not be able to go Thursday night against the San Francisco 49ers.

Palmer has not been ruled out.  He did not practice on Tuesday and is still in concussion protocol. We will wait to see what happens. If Palmer is somehow able to play, expect Dysert to be the third quarterback.

Then a pair of moves to the injured reserve.  The Cardinals played both safety Tyvon Branch and running back Chris Johnson on injured reserve.  It had been thought that while Branch could miss extended time, that Johnson would miss maybe just a couple of weeks.

Whatever took place between Tuesday morning and Tuesday afternoon though put Johnson out for the season.  Neither Branch nor Johnson was put on injured reserve with a designation to return.

The Cardinals also signed running back Kerwynn Williams.  He was cut in preseason during the final wave of cuts.  As soon as Johnson went down on Sunday, we all pretty much knew Williams would be the first guy called upon.

Receiver Brittan Golden was promoted from the practice squad and safety Christian Bryant was added to the practice squad on Tuesday as well.  Golden’s addition now gives the Cardinals six active roster receivers.
