The Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers announced their inactives for Thursday night
The Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers announced their inactives ahead of their matchup on Thursday Night Football. The Cardinals big loss of course is quarterback Carson Palmer is out. He stayed home.
That means quarterback Drew Stanton gets the starting nod on Thursday night. It will be his first start since 2014.
The other Cardinals inactives:
DT Robert Nkemdiche
DT Ed Stinson
DT Josh Mauro
DT Olsen Pierre
TE Darren Fells
G Cole Toner
We already knew that Fells and Stinson were out. In fact, the Cardinals made a move on Thursday to add another tight end because of the absence of Fells. They added Hakeem Valles at tight end off the practice squad and had to release running back Kerwynn Williams.
Also returning is defensive tackle Frostee Rucker. However defensive tackle Josh Mauro takes his place. Four of the seven inactives are on the defensive line.
Another notable absence is rookie defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche. He is healthy enough to go. You have to wonder at this point if he will get another shot to play the rest of this season? There was some talk he wasn’t a great fit to play against the way the 49ers offense does. Still, it would be great to see him on the field at some point.
As for the 49ers, they also announced who would be sitting this one out. Linebacker Navarro Bowman who had already been ruled out, was placed on injured reserve.
49ers inactives:
QB Christian Ponder
WR Keshawn Martin
DB Jimmie Ward
OL John Theus
TE Vance McDonald
DL Glenn Dorsey
DL DeForest Buckner
McDonald is a big loss in this game for the 49ers. The Cardinals have always had issues with tight ends and he is a big one.
Linebacker Aaron Lynch does return for the 49ers on Thursday night. He comes back from suspension. That is a huge addition for a struggling team.
