Arizona Cardinals star David Johnson working to break records

David Johnson has been a star in the making since he stepped foot inside the Cardinals locker room. The Cardinals have routinely lacked a strong running back throughout their time in Arizona. However, David Johnson has started a new chapter in Arizona’s history of running backs.

Johnson piled up more than 100 yards from scrimmage during Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins. This game would be Johnson’s 13th consecutive game of more than 100 yards from scrimmage.

David Johnson rushed for 80 yards and earned 41 yards receiving during a game in Florida, where the rain was constantly pouring soaking the field. Johnson tied the record which was originally held by Edgerrin James, who earned it when James was the starting running back for the Indianapolis Colts in 2005.

Johnson has continued to put up big numbers as a running back. Johnson has 1,830 yards from scrimmage, giving him 140.8 yards per game and with only three games remaining. If he continues his hot streak, he will finish the season off with 2,252 yards and 18 total touchdowns.  If he hits those numbers, he will be among only eight running backs to achieve that.

    • Johnson’s numbers have stirred the pot when it comes to MVP discussions, but the Cardinals have acknowledged that he would not win that award because of the team’s lackluster record. However, David Johnson’s performance on the field has made him a top candidate for Offensive Player of the Year. Before his game on Sunday, Johnson was third in rushing, fourth in rushing touchdowns and 33rd in receiving yards among all players. He is a player that can be used in any situation.

    David Johnson is in his only second season, but he is already impressing his team and league, making us wonder how many records he will break by the time he retires. David Johnson will now be working to reach Barry Sanders’ record of 15 games, while his team plays the New Orleans Saints who only have a 27th-ranked defense.
