Arizona Cardinals picked to play in London

The Arizona Cardinals are heading back to London during the 2017 season. They will play the Los Angeles Rams at Twickenham Stadium.

The NFL announced the two teams would face off in London in either Week 7 or 8. The Cardinals will be the visiting team. Cardinals president Michael Bidwill released a statement.

"“In 2014, I attended the Raiders-Dolphins game at Wembley Stadium and experienced first-hand the incredible enthusiasm U.K. fans have for the NFL,” Cardinals president Michael Bidwill said in a statement. “I also encountered a huge number of Cardinals fans asking when our team would be playing there. I know this is great news for them as well as the U.S. members of the Red Sea who couldn’t have a cooler destination to see a road game. We’re looking forward to seeing them all there next fall.”"

The other teams scheduled to play in London will include the Vikings, Browns, Saints, Dolphins, Ravens and Jaguars. The last time Arizona played an international game was in 2005, when they played San Francisco 49ers in Mexico City, ending up winning the game, 31-14.

The Cardinals previously played in England in 1983, during the preseason. The NFL previously played three games to sellout crowds in London since 2014 and now the NFL announced they are expanding to four games in 2017. The Cardinals are 2-1 when playing outside the United States.

The popularity of the NFL in London has caused NFL executives to considering having a full-time NFL team there.  The NFL signed a 10-year partnership with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, a team based in London, who plays at White Hart Lane, which is a stadium undergoing massive renovations and remodeling, making it the ideal location for an NFL team.  The Rams gave up a home game in order to play in London, making them the away team but still play a full eight games at home.
