Arizona Cardinals: Finding the right quarterback
By Scott Allen
Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians indicated the team is looking for their future quarterback this offseason
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer is likely coming back and playing in 2017. That being said, the time is now for the team to find the quarterback for 2018 and beyond. The Cardinals couldn’t agree more.
On Monday, coach Bruce Arians indicated the team was going to make it a priority to find a quarterback for their future beyond Palmer. There was no exact indication how they were going to go about it.
Money would be on the Cardinals finding a quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft. There are no veterans currently that could come in and become the next starting quarterback for this organization.
The Cardinals need to think long-term. There will be options come draft time in April.
The big question is will the Cardinals go with a big name in the first round or will they find a diamond in the rough in the later rounds? Guys like North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky or Clemson’s Deshaun Watson will be long gone by the time the Cardinals pick in the first round.

Guys like Notre Dame’s Deshone Kizer could be around at 13, but Cleveland picks ahead of the Cardinals at 12 and that’s where some believe the Browns will get their quarterback.
Do the Cardinals take a later round chance on a guy like Miami’s Brad Kaaya, Ole Miss’s Chad Kelly, or Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes? Mahomes just declared himself eligible for the draft on Tuesday.
Kaaya would certainly need some time to learn before playing. Some believe he should have stayed another year. Mahomes is a system quarterback. He is also from Texas Tech. Gunslinging quarterbacks haven’t had much success in the NFL.
The Cardinals have promised to find someone, so let’s allow the process to play out. We’ll delve into depth with the quarterbacks over the next couple of months as we go through the combine and get closer to draft time.
