Larry Warford, guard

If the Cardinals are unable to land Kevin Zeitler, Detroit Lions free agent guard Larry Warford would not be a bad consolation prize. Warford is probably the third best free agent guard on the market, with Green Bay Packers free agent guard T.J. Lang running a close second behind Zeitler.

What sets Warford apart from Lang, however, is his age – Warford will be 26 years old at the start of the 2017 season, while Lang will turn 30 during the first month of the season. For this reason, it seems likely that the Cardinals would set their sights upon Warford, rather than Lang.

Like Zeitler, Warford appears intent upon testing free agency. Also like Zeitler, Warford will not come cheap – one estimate suggests that he will command a multi-year contract worth somewhere in the range of $8-12 million per year.

Nonetheless, the same rationale associated with paying Zeitler, also prevails in Warford’s case. He is a talented guard, who offers an immediate upgrade to the offensive line, but is also young enough to be a part of the Cardinals’ long-term plans.
