The Arizona Cardinals have offers on the table for Calais Campbell and Tony Jefferson

If this wasn’t a free agent year for the Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Calais Campbell or safety Tony Jefferson, the offers the Cardinals currently have on the table would be good enough. Unfortunately they are both free agents.

The Cardinals have reportedly offered both players very good contracts.  The Cardinals reportedly offered Campbell a contract similar to Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Michael Bennett.

Bennett is making $31 million over three years.  Rumors are that Campbell could command more than that in the open market.

Campbell’s name has been linked to the Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins, and a possible return to the Cardinals. There are writers for many other teams that believe he would be a good fit for their teams.

The big question we’ve been asking for a couple of months now is what would CC do if it came down to a big contract offer from the Cardinals but yet not big enough to match another team? It’s his last big payday.  I think he would leave for the money.

As for Jefferson, his offer isn’t exactly known but I’m hearing definitely a worthy offer.  He likely commands a few million more than what the Cardinals will be able to provide.  Remember, the Cardinals are strapped somewhat by the salary cap.

Jefferson though would be more likely to come back to Arizona with an offer just under the best offer he would get elsewhere.  I get the sense he would like to stay here.  It is a business after all though.  Money will be a factor.

Jefferson won’t leave if the offer isn’t drastically better elsewhere but if someone offers a couple more years with several more million, I could see him leaving. The hometown discount won’t be as big as one would want to believe.

We will find out once free agency opens next Thursday March 9th.  If both players hit the open market, there may be no turning back.
