Rumors are that the Arizona State product will soon become available so the Arizona Cardinals may have interest when he is
This is supposed to be that offseason for the Arizona Cardinals. The offseason where, once and for all, they acquire the quarterback to lead their franchise into the future. Due to some unusual circumstances, a new candidate for the job could soon surface.
Brock Osweiler has been traded from the Houston Texans to the Cleveland Browns. The Browns agreed to take Osweiler’s enormous salary off the Texans’ hands for the price of a couple of draft picks. Word is that they too will rid themselves of the 26-year old by out-right releasing him.
Why would the Cards consider signing a passer that even the lowly Browns don’t want? For one, Osweiler has the tools that Arizona head coach Bruce Arians looks for in the position. He has great size (6’8″, 235) and an arm strong enough to execute the vertical passing game that Arians so dearly loves.

All the same, it is hard to ignore the poor campaign he had in Houston last year. In 14 starts, he completed just 59.0% of his throws for 2,957 yards. He also threw more interceptions (16) than touchdown passes (15).
He played much better in 2015 as a member of the Denver Broncos. He completed 61.8% of his passes for 1,967 yards in seven starts. His touchdown/interception ratio was a more respectable 10:6.
Will the real Osweiler please stand up. If the Cardinals were able to sign him at a reasonable salary, it wouldn’t hurt to see if the coaching staff could get him back on track. After all, Arians has been dubbed by some the “quarterback whisperer”, meaning he has the ability to get the best out of his projects.
Whether Osweiler is worth the trouble is debatable. He struggled mightily last season, but did show flashes of potential in Denver. A bizarre NFL trade may have dropped the Cards’ future at quarterback right in their laps.
