It would be the ultimate risk, but if he has something left, he could benefit the Cardinals

It’d be hard to find a more divisive name in free agency this off-season than Tony Romo. He has been the most interesting story so far in this year, despite barely playing in the past two seasons. Fans of quarterback needy teams are either thrilled at the prospect of adding him, or desperate for their team to find somebody else.

The Cardinals are not a team in immediate need of a quarterback. Palmer is returning, and ready to make one last run for a ring. However, if this is Palmer’s last season, there’s no answer for 2018 and beyond. Even if they draft a quarterback this year, it’s not a sure thing that he’d be the answer.

Romo has his detractors, who point to turnovers and big-game failures. However, his numbers rank him as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. He’ll be 37 this year, and would be 38 before he’s needed, barring an injury to Palmer. It doesn’t make it seem like a great move, or even a likely move, but if he has something left, he could be a great addition.
