The Arizona Cardinals may find their games completed at a quicker pace in 2017

As long as it results in a win, I don’t care honestly how long the game takes.  However if it means getting the Arizona Cardinals to victory quicker, then the NFL can do whatever it wants to speed games up.

According to NFL.com and others, the NFL is considering speeding up the game starting this season.  Just don’t tinker too much with the rules.

One of the proposed changes is to start a play clock after extra-points.  Now that I love.  Of course it will change the way commercials are aired but if we can eliminate those few minutes between scoring and the next possession, that is fine by me.

It may re-arrange the way networks air their commercials but I’d rather have 30 seconds more of a few breaks than an extra couple of minutes after every score.  Not saying the idea would eventually make the game speed up but I think the NFL needs to try something.

The game of course doesn’t get shortened.  It still will be 60 minutes in regulation.  However as I detailed last week, the NFL is also considering shortening overtime periods in the preseason and regular season.  That I’m not a fan of.

The game is evolving and there will always be changes.  For the Cardinals and the other 31 team’s sake though let’s hope it doesn’t ruin traditions with too many changes.  Fewer commercial breaks but 30 second longer ones when they happen?  Alright then.

I know many fans are not fans of Goodell’s but I do like him pointing out in his statement the fact that right now as is, the extra point happens, go to commercial, come back from commercial and kickoff, only to go back to commercial.  This would eliminate that action.  I say bring it on.
