2. The Secondary

The secondary makes #2 on this list because of the pass-heavy league that is the modern National Football League. The secondary will be even more vital with the emergence of the Atlanta Falcons and the potential re-emergence of the New Orleans Saints. Partner those teams with the Packers, Giants, and Redskins, and the NFC requires a top-notch secondary to remain competitive.

The secondary will likely consist of Patrick Peterson at CB1, Justin Bethel or a rookie (probably a rookie) at CB2, Tyrann Mathieu at FS/ Nickel CB, and Antoine Bethea at SS. Cornerback/safety Harlan Miller could squeeze his way into the lineup or a rotation after he earned his way onto the field in late 2016.

This secondary lineup of Peterson, Bethel, Mathieu, and Bethea totals 13 Pro Bowls. Peterson has one as a returner and five as a DB. Bethea has three as a DB, Bethel has three as a special teamer, and Mathieu has one as a DB. Between only Peterson (3x), Bethel (2x), and Mathieu (1x) there are six All-Pro selections as well.

Ever since Peterson first entered the league he has been a top three corner and arguably the best. The same can be said for Tyrann Mathieu when he is not struggling with injury. The Honey Badger was a serious MVP candidate in 2015 before tearing his ACL.

Look for the team to draft one or two defensive backs come draft time. However, the secondary lacks no playmakers and has the potential to develop into the best DB group in the NFL in 2017. They are known as the “No Fly Zone” for a reason.
