The Arizona Cardinals are reportedly interested in obtaining quarterback Blaine Gabbert

For the most part, the moves Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim and coach Bruce Arians have made have paid off.  They don’t always pan out, no one is perfect.

It would be perfectly bad however if the Cardinals pursue free-agent quarterback Blaine Gabbert. If he comes to Arizona, it makes the team look desperate.

The Cardinals failed to pick up a quarterback in last weekend’s draft.  That is fine.  You don’t want to see them reach for a guy in the draft.  You also don’t want to reach when it comes to veterans either.

Gabbert, who played the last three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, has thrown 38 career-touchdowns and 37 career-interceptions.  His passer rating is 71.1.

If you are to believe the reports however, like the one on arizonasports.com, which cites some NFL guys on Twitter, then it would seem the Cardinals are trying their best to land a deal with him.

You can never have enough quarterbacks on the roster this time of year but you have to wonder where are the Cardinals hoping to go with this?  Gabbert is entering his seventh NFL season and has yet to come even close to the quarterback some projected him to be when he was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011.

I just don’t see how he helps in the long run?  This move indicates the Cardinals are getting nervous and also are losing trust and faith in Drew Stanton as backup.   Didn’t Stanton beat Gabbert head to head last October in San Francisco?

If the move comes to fruition, hopefully it doesn’t stall the search for the future quarterback, a move the Cardinals promised in January that has not happened yet.  Gabbert is not and should not be the future of this team or any franchise for that matter.
