The Arizona Cardinals continued their search to bolster their depth chart at cornerback

The Arizona Cardinals didn’t address the cornerback in the 2017 NFL Draft.  Since then they’ve been pretty busy at the position bringing people in.

On Tuesday, the Cardinals added another face to the depth chart at cornerback.  Jumal Rolle, who last spent time with the Baltimore Ravens, was signed.

Rolle missed the entire 2016 season with a torn Achilles.  He didn’t get much time on the playing field with the Ravens as he was signed to the practice squad in November 2015 and not activated to the active roster until mid-December that season.

His last contributions came with the Houston Texans in 2014.  He had three interceptions and four passes defensed that season.

Rolle was originally signed by the Buffalo Bill as an undrafted free agent in 2013 out of NCAA Division II Catawba College.  Since then he has spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers as well.

Rolle fits what the Cardinals like in size at 6’0 and age, 26.  At this point there is little harm in bringing a guy like Rolle in to see what he can do.

Now we will have to see what kind of impact he can have in camp after missing all of last season. Achilles injuries are serious stuff when you rely on a lot of movement horizontally for your day job.

Whether he can give the Cardinals anything at all remains to be seen.  At least the Cardinals get an ‘A’ for effort.  Rolle’s addition to the roster brings the total amount of cornerbacks to 11.

Needless to say, the Cardinals are definitely paying attention to the position.  Clearly they don’t appear to be as settled on the position as they may have once lead on a few weeks ago.

For now though, the Cardinals would be doing a disservice to themselves if they didn’t kick the tires on young veterans like Rolle.  Let’s see what he can do.
