The Arizona Cardinals are holding their annual rookie mini-camp this weekend

For Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians, it is one of the most exciting days of the year, according to what he told azcardinals.com.  Rookie mini-camp is being held at Tempe headquarters this weekend ahead of soon to begin OTA’s.

With the first day of rookie camp being the first day of actual players taking part of activities on a practice field, you can sense why Arians would be excited.  So far, it would seem he is mostly happy with what he has seen.

Especially noteworthy is cornerback Budda Baker.  The second round draft choice out of Washington had an interception in Friday’s practice.

Baker is also an impressive person.  He was interviewed by arizonasports.com earlier this week and was well spoken and sounded genuinely happy to be in Arizona.

The most difficult aspect of the rookie mini camp process though is it will also come with a round of cuts.  Not everyone in camp is here on a undrafted free agent contract or a team draft choice.

Some players are here this weekend on a tryout basis only.  Likely some of those players will not be invited back and it could mean the only shot some of these players get.

Other guys to watch out for is receiver Chad Williams.  He too was impressive in his interview earlier this week on arizonasports.com.  I believe he is going to surprise a lot of people on the field.

Some experts believe the Cardinals reached for Williams in the third round of the draft.  Maybe, but I’m going to believe the Cardinals know what they are doing.

After camp ends on Sunday afternoon, next on the docket for the team will be OTA’s.  The first round runs this Tuesday through Thursday at team headquarters.
