From Super Bowl contenders, to missing the playoffs.. The 2016 Arizona Cardinals season..

Now that the season has been over for awhile and I’ve calmed down a bit, I feel like we can bring up how bad the 2016 season went, and how to prevent it from happening again.

I feel like it can go without saying the Cardinals were a big favorite to reach the Super Bowl last season. We had come so close in 2015 and only improved the roster last year.

Palmer was coming off a career year that was low key derailed by a lingering finger injury he played through. Fitzgerald had an incredible post season and was figured to carry that momentum into last years season. It seemed this team that was firing on all cylinders would come back better than ever.

Obviously that wasn’t the case after finishing 7-8-1, missing the playoffs by a good margin. Oh yeah, and we even tied a game. It seemed like no matter what we did, something bad would always follow after. It didn’t make a lot of sense in the moment, but as time has gone on we’ve been able to reflect on what exactly went wrong.

There’s obviously a lot that goes into a bad season, it’s usually not just one big factor. There are special cases where you lose your starting quarter back (Palmer 2014) or something like that, but for Arizona it was a lot of little things that undid us last year.
