After an injury, the Arizona Cardinals were in the market for another veteran cornerback
After the news broke Sunday of Arizona Cardinals cornerback Ronald Zamort suffering a season-ending torn ACL at Saturday’s scrimmage, it was clear they were going to make a quick move to replace him.
They took about 12 hours to sign Tramon Williams. He last played for the Cleveland Browns. It was a smart move and definitely worth a shot at taking.
Initial reaction by some fans was why would the Cardinals grab a guy from such a poor team? Well, the team was bad, not the player. The two don’t always go hand in hand, right?
Some may believe that but then they likely don’t know football very well. Williams comes in at a time when the team is on the brink of desperation at the position.
Brandon Flowers also came in last week for a look. He passed his physical but ultimately Williams looks to be the better fit. This is his 11th NFL season.

He has 29 interceptions in his career but didn’t become a starter until his third season, although he did start one game his second season. His first eight seasons were with the Green Bay Packers.
The Cardinals needed help. They obviously felt like what they had on the roster right now couldn’t replace Zamort. Having another body in camp, especially a veteran one, isn’t a bad idea either.
Tramon Williams will push to be starter. Sure, we all realize he’s 34 years old. If he can play, he can play. Age is just a number. Go ask guys like Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald.
Until Justin Bethel is fully healthy and is improved and Brandon Williams gets some more seasoning, Tramon Williams is the guy. The move may not pan out in the end but you have to applaud the Cardinals for trying.
In this case this is more than trying though. This is a case of Steve Keim doing some quick homework and getting veteran help at a position is it needed at most.
