Arizona Cardinals should look into signing Tramaine Brock

CHARLOTTE, NC - SEPTEMBER 18: Tramaine Brock

With the domestic violence charges against him now dropped, will the Arizona Cardinals look to sign the talented cornerback?

The Arizona Cardinals have a problem with players who run afoul of the law. Unlike some other NFL clubs ( a certain one that resides in Dallas,Texas comes to mind in particular), the Cardinals have integrity. As bad as Cards’ management wants to win a Super Bowl, they prefer not to have bad people in their locker room to do it.

Former inside linebacker Daryl Washington is a prime example. One of the most talented defenders in franchise history was released this past May due to an array of off the field troubles. Troubles that included substance abuse and aggravated assault against an ex-girlfriend. As much as Arizona could’ve used someone with Washington’s skill-set, they instead chose to move on.

In September of 2014, the Cardinals released Jonathan Dwyer after he was charged with aggravated assault. Reports said that the running back head-butted his wife and broke her nose after she wouldn’t have sex with him. Another sad part of the story had Dwyer throwing a shoe at his 17-month old son (the boy wasn’t injured).

All of that being said, a unique situation has presented itself nevertheless. Former San Francisco 49er Tramaine Brock has been cleared of domestic violence charges stemming from an incident in June. Apparently the victim, his 31-year old girlfriend, refused to cooperate with authorities concerning the alleged assault.

Brock is a talented cornerback who would be a great addition to the Cards’ defensive backfield. The 28-year old is coming off of an excellent 2016 campaign with the division-rival Niners. In 16 starts, Brock recorded 59 tackles, 14 passes defensed and an interception.

Reportedly, there are already four teams interested in the free agent veteran. Whether Arizona is one of the four is not known at this time. Rumor has it that the Philadelphia Eagles may be showing interest.

The fact that the charges have been dropped does not necessarily mean that Brock is innocent. Before the front office decides that they’re comfortable bringing the 5’10”, 197 pounder into the nest, they’ll need to do some advanced investigating. If they are satisfied with what they find out about the situation, Brock could finally provide a solution to the Cardinals’ number-two cornerback dilemma.
