The Cardinals kick off the home portion of their preseason once again with the Raiders.  Last season the Cardinals kicked off the preseason at home against the Raiders in a 31-10 loss.

For the Cardinals this will be game number two.  They lost in the Pro Football Hall of Fame game last Thursday to the Dallas Cowboys 20-18.

The Cardinals started off against the Cowboys with a 15-0 lead with backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert at the helm.  He will get his chance again on Saturday night.

The Raiders are playing in their first preseason game.  This will be the only meeting this season between the two teams.

Game Plan

The Cardinals plan on using three quarterbacks on Saturday night against the Raiders.  Carson Palmer will play the first quarter.  Drew Stanton will also see his first preseason action playing the second quarter.

Gabbert as mentioned previously, will get another chance to play as well.  He will take over behind center for the second half on Saturday night.

Look for Cardinals starters to get about 15 snaps before coach Bruce Arians turns things over to the backups.  This means guys like Larry Fitzgerald and David Johnson will see some limited action.

As for the Raiders, this will be the first game for running back Marshawn Lynch, the former Seattle Seahawks back who retired briefly in 2016.  Also playing will be quarterback Derek Carr, who broke his leg at the end of the 2016 season, missing the playoffs.
