Arizona Cardinals receiver John Brown returned to game action on Saturday in a big way

Take some time to share concern about the receiver position, Arizona Cardinals receiver John Brown delivers on promise.  After being demoted to the third receiver this week in favor of Jaron Brown, John Brown returned big against the Atlanta Falcons.

In the first quarter Saturday night, Brown caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from starting quarterback Carson Palmer.  Then in the second quarter, backup quarterback Drew Stanton connected on a 21-yard touchdown to Brown.

While the first touchdown was a beauty, and a the first in the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the second was even better.  Brown caught an over the shoulder pass near the sidelines, stayed inbounds.

Credit both Palmer and Stanton some on the throws as well, but if John Brown stays healthy, this team could have a very healthy season offensively.  Brown’s health though is a huge if.

More from Raising Zona

Brown has been sidelined most of the preseason because of a hamstring injury.  He is also battling sickle-cell trait.  On Saturday he showed just how dangerous he can be.

Hopefully the Cardinals will benefit from his services all season.  Earlier today we talked about the Cardinals possible need to find another receiver.  If Brown remains healthy and performs like he did in the first half, the need likely won’t be there.

However, the Cardinals would be prudent to still knock some doors down.  Let’s also not forget this is still preseason.  Brown’s injury also seems to be a day by day, week by week proposition.

You can’t help but be anything but excited for the near future if in fact John Brown is now ready to go.  Bring the Detroit Lions on!  September 10th can not get here fast enough.  For Brown, hopefully the feeling is mutual.
