The Arizona Cardinals were blown out in the preseason finale on Thursday night against the Denver Broncos

The score says it all, well most of it anyway.  After taking a 2-0 lead early on with a safety, it was all downhill for the most part for the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cardinals actually could have had a second safety, however officials ruled that the quarterback’s forward progress had halted at the one.  No need to make a big deal out of it in preseason but it still appeared to be a questionable call.

Some players with jobs on the line, appeared to play very hard.  Guys like receiver Jeremy Ross and running back Elijhaa Penny did a decent job on Thursday night.

Head coach Bruce Arians had said there were eight guys playing for four spots against the Broncos.  Those players weren’t identified but it was clear who some of them were.

Punters Matt Wile and Richie Leone battled it out.  The big question remaining there is will either one of them survive cuts this weekend?

More from Raising Zona

Blaine Gabbert got the start at quarterback and looked alright.  Rookie quarterback Trevor Knight looked like, well, a rookie.  He threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown.  It appeared as if the ball was meant for the Broncos’ Dymonte Thomas.

Gabbert appears headed for the third quarterback spot on the team.  Knight may have worked his way out of a possible practice squad spot.  Those chances were slim anyway with three quarterbacks already on the roster.

Now we wait out the next 36 hours or so to see what the future holds for guys like running backs Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington or guys like linebacker Cap Capi or receiver Brittan Golden.

There will be a long list of players made available once cuts from 90 to 53 are finished by Saturday afternoon.  So what you see after Cardinals cuts may not be the final product.
