The Arizona Cardinals waited awhile before making their roster cuts official

The Arizona Cardinals made their cut down to the 53-man roster but expect some of it to change in the next couple of days.  There are a few surprises and some expected cuts.

Amongst those considered to be surprise cuts are fourth round draft pick offensive lineman Dorian Johnson.  There was some excitement surrounding his pick in April.

Other cuts include receivers Jeremy Ross and linebacker Cap Capi.  Capi was thought to have had a very good preseason and training camp.  Apparently it was not enough for him to make the team.

There were a few players who didn’t make the team because of injury.  Linebacker Jarvis Jones and linebacker Tre’von Johnson reached injury settlements with the team and receiver Aaron Dobson was placed on injured reserve.  Also defensive tackle Ed Stinson was reported as injured/waived.

Dobson was thought to have been improving but spent most of camp on the sidelines.  Other receivers let go include Carlton Agudosi, Krishawn Hogan, and Chris Hubert.  No surprises in that group but will point out coach Bruce Arians did have positive comments about him a few days ago.

Also cut was one of their 2016 draft picks, guard Cole Toner.  All week I had him on the bubble and that proved to burst for him on Saturday.  He played poorly in the preseason.

Safety Harlan Miller was also shown the door as was punter Richie Leone.  Do not be surprised if Wile is cut in the next day or two however if the Cardinals can come to terms with Andy Lee, who was released by the Carolina Panthers on Saturday.

Three tight ends were released, including Rickey Seals-Jones, Hakeem Valles, and Gerald Christian. This leaves the Cardinals with three tight ends as expected.

The remainder of the cuts:

Defensive tackles: Pasoni Tasini, David Moala, Peli Anau

Linebackers: Terence Waugh, Scooby Wright, Alex Bazzie, Zavier Gooden, Ryan Langford

Cornerbacks:  Jarrell Carter, Ryan Lewis, Gump Hayes, Sojourn Shelton

Safety: Ironhead Gallon

Running backs: Chris Johnson. James Summers

Offensive line: Guard Kaleb Johnson, tackles Jonathan McLaughlin and Givens Price

Quarterback: Trevor Knight

There are plenty of practice squad candidates in there.  Keep in mind they can only add 10 to that squad.  Some are likely to come from cuts from other teams, so there are precious few spots available here.

Expect to see additional news on Sunday regarding running back T.J. Logan.  He is going to likely land on injured reserve and be replaced by either a new punter or by one of these players cut on Saturday.  If he had gone on injured reserve on Saturday, his season would have ended.
