The Arizona Cardinals first injury report was released on Wednesday

Not the best of news on Wednesday for the Arizona Cardinals as they prepare to play the Detroit Lions in week one of the 2017 NFL Season.  The first injury report came out and there’s already one player ruled out.

Linebacker Deone Bucannon, who just returned from an ankle injury, re-injured it and is now ruled out of this week’s game. It may even end up being more.

Bucannon sprained his ankle in practice and now waits for a return with no timetable.  The only certainty is that he is out against Detroit.

Also not practicing on Wednesday was defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche.  Even though he did not practice, there is a chance he will play.

Quarterback Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald made the report but only because they didn’t practice.  No need to worry Birdgang, they aren’t injured.  They were given the day off to help with rest in preparation for the game.

Guard Mike Iupati was listed as being limited in practice on Wednesday.  That was the extent of the Cardinals injury report.

While it is disappointing news on Bucannon, the fact that the Cardinals are deep at the position should be considered a plus.  Hopefully, they will not miss a beat without him.

Originally it was thought Bucannon could miss the first week or two anyway.  When he returned a couple of weeks ago, all appeared to be fine.

The best thing is there is no need to rush him back.  If it takes a couple of weeks to heal, then the Cardinals will be able to manage.

As for the Lions, they had four players limited in practice on Wednesday including defensive end Ezekiel Ansah.  For the Lions fans that should be considered good news for them.

With Bucannon out for the Cardinals, look for rookie Haason Reddick to start in his place after all. He is second on the depth chart behind Bucannon.  Some believed he would be the starter when the season opened.
