Arizona Cardinals vs San Francisco 49ers: Good, bad, ugly
By Scott Allen
The Good
Overtime
Could it be anything else? Absolutely not. The Cardinals allowed the 49ers offense to take the ball all the way down the field in the extra period but held them to a field goal, which allowed the Cardinals to get the ball.
The Cardinals saved their best offensive drive of the day for the overtime period on a 19-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Carson Palmer to receiver Larry Fitzgerald.
They didn’t get the ball back until 2:24 remaining. With the new rule of changing the overtime to 10 minutes instead of 15, the Cardinals were left to use one of their timeouts in the 49ers 17-play drive.
Palmer was 6-7 for 75-yards in the overtime period alone. He worked the two-minute drive to almost perfection.
The only negative of the overtime period was when it appeared Fitz was hurt on the touchdown catch. Turns out he was fine. He just had the wind knocked out of him.
