Former Arizona Cardinals’ first-round draft pick Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie may be on some thin ice with his current team

There’s an interesting situation taking place in New York that the Arizona Cardinals should be aware of. A zero and five start to the season is affecting the moral of at least one of the New York Giants. A player who the Cards are very familiar with, in fact.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, a former Cardinals’ cornerback, has been suspended by his current club. He’s apparently unhappy with his role on the Giants’ defense. Their coaching staff has moved “DRC” to slot corner to make room for Eli Apple, a first-round draft pick in 2016.

Alleged incidents involving the 31-year old veteran took place on the Giants’ sideline on Sunday, though there’s different versions of the events. Whatever the truth is, nothing has been resolved. One thing is for sure, Rodgers-Cromartie is currently at odds with the organization, and it would not be surprising if the 10th-year pro would want out.

It just so happens that Arizona could use a cover guy. Anyone with even a smidgen of football IQ can see that Justin Bethel can’t play the position. The sixth-year pro out of Presbyterian College has already given up four, count ’em FOUR, touchdown passes and there’s still 11 games to be played.

For now at least, Giants’ executives are claiming that they have no plans to trade or release the unhappy defensive back. But front office men and coaches do tend to bend the truth here and there, especially if lying will benefit their franchise. If Cards’ general manager Steve Keim was to inquire about the availability of Rodgers-Cromartie, there’s a fair possibility that New York would at least take the call.

Cardinals’ management has been handed a project to work on. It’s pretty clear that Rodgers-Cromartie would provide an upgrade for the Arizona defense. Making that happen may just be an inquiry away.
