The Arizona Cardinals made mistake after mistake in a blowout loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday

What didn’t go wrong for the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday?  Well, pretty much everything did in a 33-0 blowout loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Cardinals only impressive drive of the day was their first one that ended in a missed 32-yard field by kicker Phil Dawson.  The offense and defense struggled the rest of the day.

Of course it didn’t help that the Cardinals lost quarterback Carson Palmer to an arm injury last in the first half.  It happened on Palmer’s last pass of the day, an interception.  It also didn’t help that the only guy to turn to at quarterback was Drew Stanton.

Late word from coach Bruce Arians is that Palmer broke his arm and will have surgery this week. He is out at least eight weeks, which means this could be it for him both with the Cardinals and for his career.

He came in and threw an interception as well.  From that point, it was over at halftime.  The defense couldn’t stop Rams running back Todd Gurley or get to quarterback Jared Goff much.

Gurley became the first 100-yard rusher against the Cardinals in 20 games.  He finished with 22 carries for 106-yards and a touchdown.

Goff was sacked just once on Sunday.  That sack belonged to linebacker Chandler Jones.  Other than that, very little pass rush.

Stanton was 5-14 for 62-yards along with the one interception.  Perhaps the bigger offensive disappointment on Sunday was the lack of a rushing attack.

The Cardinals were stuffed early on, but they abandoned the running game even while it was still a game.  Running back Adrian Peterson carried the ball 11 times for 21-yards.  He was a complete no factor on Sunday.

Now the Cardinals have two weeks to stew about this one and prepare for the next.  They are on the bye next week and then head back on the road to face the San Francisco 49ers on November 5th.
