The Arizona Cardinals back home Thursday night against the Seattle Seahawks in pivotal NFC West game

The Arizona Cardinals (4-4) found victory again last Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers 20-10. Now the return home for the first time since October 15th against the Seattle Seahawks (5-3).

While the Cardinals were able to dispatch the 49ers, the Seahawks meanwhile came away with a home loss to the Washington Redskins 17-14.  It was a game that saw Seahawks kicker Blair Walsh miss three field goals.

These two teams are meeting for the first time this season.  The second game will be in week 17 in Seattle.  The Cardinals last saw the Seahawks last Christmas Eve, winning 34-31.  The last time these two met in Glendale was October 2016 and ended in a 6-6 tie.

Key matchups/players

After finding balance last week between the running game and the passing game, don’t be surprised to see a little more from the passing game despite what you may hear.  Look for Adrian Peterson to get his carries against the Seahawks defense but he won’t likely get 37 carries.

If this was a Sunday game, you might see Peterson eclipse the 30 carry mark again.  Look for more in the 25-30 range at most on Thursday night.

So that leaves quarterback Drew Stanton to find receivers.  He needs to limit his mistakes against a tough Seahawks secondary.  That secondary will be without Earl Thomas most likely.

The Cardinals also will need to contain Russell Wilson.  It is always easier said than done.  If they contain him then the Cardinals defense needs to focus on receivers Doug Baldwin and Paul Richardson.  Both can hurt them bad.

Believe it or not, eyes will also be on both kickers.  Not only did we see a 6-6 tie last season in the game in Glendale, this year they have two kickers have had their challenges.

As previously stated, Seahawks kicker Blair Walsh missed three field goals last Sunday.  Phil Dawson for the Cardinals also missed one, his sixth miss of the season.  That is more than he had the last two seasons combined.
