The window to win a Super Bowl may not be closing just yet for the Arizona Cardinals thanks to Larry Fitzgerald

Here’s news that was unexpected on Thursday.  Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald is reportedly nearing a one-year contract extension.

What does that mean for the 2018 season for the Cardinals?  At this point it is uncertain.  What this does tell us though is that there is definitely thought and hope Fitz will return for the 2018 season.

A contract extension doesn’t guarantee that possibility at this point.  All along Fitz has said he will not address his future beyond the 2017 season until after the season has ended.

With the way things have gone for the Cardinals in 2017, the season appears headed for an ending on December 31st against the Seattle Seahawks.  That being said, it is not a huge surprise there are thoughts about making another run next season.

If the Cardinals were to make another run though, would it also be with quarterback Carson Palmer and coach Bruce Arians?  You would have to think Fitz would not return without either one of them regardless of hos he feels health wise.

There is no question Fitz is still playing at a high level.  He has 60 receptions for 677-yards and three touchdowns.  His average is just over six receptions per game.

That pace would take him to 102 receptions for the season.  Last season he lead the NFL with 107 receptions.

Fitz would turn 35 a week before the 2018 season began.  As long as he’s healthy, why wouldn’t he at least think about coming back one more time with the expectations falling short for so many reasons in 2017?

The Cardinals still need to look offense in this upcoming draft no matter who decides to come back.  A quarterback and receiver are musts as the teams looks forward to the future.

Fitz has not been banged up nearly as much as he was last year.  That may help make the decision a little easier as well.  We’ll see what happens once the season ends.
