Arizona Cardinals: Peters extension good news
By Scott Allen
The Arizona Cardinals took another step of solidifying their defensive line over the next few years
There is no doubt the Arizona Cardinals are more prepared for the near future with their defense than their offense. On Friday, they ensured their defensive line helps keep that way by extending the contract of defensive lineman Corey Peters.
Peters, who has been hurt the past couple of weeks and will miss Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, has been solid since his arrival in Arizona. His numbers don’t blow you away but his leadership and experience will tell you he’s worth keeping.
With 16 tackles, one sack, and one pass defensed in nine starts this season, Peters will get to remain in Arizona for at least another three years. He spent the first five seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.
His first season in Arizona was a bust because of an Achilles injury suffered in the preseason. He had 12 tackles, including one for a safety in 2016 in 14 starts.

With the Cardinals trying to figure out what to do moving forward in so many areas, this was a nice thing to see on Friday. Peters is solid. He doesn’t blow you away with Chandler Jones statistics but knowing the defensive line has a veteran like Peters on it will help guys like Josh Mauro and Rodney Gunter.
There are a lot of contracts to solve in the offseason. This takes one guy off the plate. His terms were not disclosed but you can bet he was well taken care of.
Now he needs to take care of himself. It has been a laundry list of injuries for the Cardinals this season. The Cardinals will need Peters down the stretch.
Either way, he will be around until at least 2020. See, the Cardinals are spending time thinking about their future. Who’s next?
