The Arizona Cardinals play their final east coast game of the season at the Washington Redskins on Sunday

The Arizona Cardinals (6-7) still have very slim playoff hopes as they travel east to face the NFC East’s Washington Redskins (5-8).  Both teams come into the game standing where they didn’t expect at this point of the season, on the outside looking in at the postseason.

The Redskins at this point are playing for pride.  They, like the Cardinals have suffered a number of key injuries that have hurt them this season.  Going against the Cardinals too is their record in Washington D.C.  They’ve not won there since 2001.

Key matchups/players

The running game is now left up to Kerwynn Williams, D.J. Foster, and Elijhaa Penny going forward.  They’ve been able to create some nice numbers on the ground over the last two weeks.

We will need to watch Blaine Gabbert in just his second road start of the season.  He lost his previous road start at Houston on November 19th.  It looks like Redskins cornerback Josh Norman will play.

Norman has been injured but participated in full on Friday in practice for the first time.  Gabbert could have his hands full if Norman is even at 80 percent.

The Cardinals defense also needs to step up on Sunday.  They could have a fun day chasing Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Cousins has been sacked 37 times this season.  He has been intercepted just nine times in 13 starts but has fumbled the ball six times.  It could be a huge day for Cardinals and NFL sack leader Chandler Jones.
