There have been quite a lot of comments on social media as to what direction the Arizona Cardinals should go with their quarterback in 2018

It has been an interesting week in Birdgangland to say the least.  The Arizona Cardinals have a lot of options available to them as they search for their next starting quarterback.

After Carson Palmer retired, it left no quarterbacks under contract for the 2018 season.  What it also did is create a lot of discussion as to whether the Cardinals should go younger immediately or bring in a veteran.

Some have suggested current New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.  No thanks.  Listen, Brees would be a great addition to any team.  However he is due to turn 39 a week from Monday.

Coming into a new system with a new coach at 39 is hard.  He may not even play two more years.  If the Cardinals are going to go with a veteran quarterback, they need one that has several years left.

The Cardinals likely will also get a young quarterback in the draft.  If they get one of the top quarterbacks, then they may bring in a lower level vet to mentor him but that guy may be wanted as a starter pretty quickly.

If they draft a quarterback in the middle rounds, then they need a strong veteran with some years left on the tires.  Palmer would have worked well with that even though he just turned 38.  He was already here.

Then there were some who mentioned New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.  Just stop.  That isn’t happening.  He is already 40.  Why would he want to move to another team at this stage?  And yes, we know about the ESPN report on his supposed rift with the Patriots.  Again, just stop.

There is no issue getting a stop-gap quarterback as long as they draft one too.  It just can’t be a guy who is close to retirement.
