5 players the Arizona Cardinals should not pursue
By Scott Allen
Josh McCown
Look, he is a nice story. The guy started his career in Arizona, so why not finish it here, right? Wrong, not a good idea.
McCown has shown some flashes of brilliance with the New York Jets and Chicago Bears over the past several years. Stops in Tampa Bay and Cleveland in between were not so memorable.
There are worse choices out there (see Mike Glennon), but the Cardinals have been down this road before. His 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions from last season are actually decent numbers.
The Cardinals almost would have to still trade up to get a top quarterback in the draft if they decided on McCown. They could take a younger quarterback in free agency, say a Teddy Bridgewater, and still draft in the middle rounds for a quarterback to be his understudy.
Getting a top quarterback in itself isn’t necessarily a bad thing either, it is just it would seem McCown has been done here before. Don’t sign the guy just because you can and that’s what it would seem it would come down to.
